Alan Ayckbourn – A Life in Theatre: The Playwright explores the career for which Ayckbourn is known best, playwright. The video explores his first steps as a playwright and what motivated him through to his West End successes as well as how the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, enabled him to take risks and create innovative and challenging plays.

It tells the extraordinary story of how Alan Ayckbourn became one of the most popular and significant playwrights of the late 20th century and how his career has spanned more than six decades and over 80 plays.
