World Premiere of All Lies

Alan Ayckbourn’s latest play will premiere during Spring 2022 at The Old Laundry Theatre, Bowness-on-Windermere.

If you watched the latest NewsRound video on the Ayckbourn YouTube Channel, you’ll have heard that for the first time in 35 years a play by Alan Ayckbourn will not be premiering in his adopted home-town of Scarborough.

Instead All Lies – his 86th full-length play – will premiere in Bowness in the Lake District at a theatre which Alan has been associated with since its opening during 1992. Alan Ayckbourn will also be directing the world premiere production at The Old Laundry Theatre.

All Lies is one of Alan Ayckbourn’s lockdown plays, written during 2021 during the second Covid-19 lockdown, it is a three-hander centred on a relationship and how it may not exactly be built on the most honest of foundations as the playwright’s description shows…

It’s love at first sight! The person of your dreams! But will they feel the same? Once you tell the truth about yourself will you even be worthy of them? Do you take the plunge and reveal all? Or choose the dangerous alternative and tell them … All lies?!

All Lies is a production by The Old Laundry Theatre – where Alan most recently directed his musical By Jeeves as part of the company’s 25th anniversary celebrations during 2017 – and will not be transferring to the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, where the majority of his plays have been premiered. So The Old Laundry will be the place to catch it if you want to see the world premiere production of All Lies.

The Old Laundry has only just recently re-opened following the lockdowns of 2020 / 2021 and Alan Ayckbourn hopes this world premiere will help support a theatre which he has been touring his productions to – in-the-round – since it was opened in 1992.

Only five of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays have not premiered in Scarborough: All Lies (2022) at the Old Laundry Theatre; A Small Family Business at the National Theatre (1987), Jeeves at the Bristol Hippodrome (1975) and Christmas V Mastermind and Mr Whatnot at the Victoria Theatre, Stoke-on-Trent (1961 & 1962)

Full details about All Lies will be announced by The Old Laundry Theatre in early 2022 as well as information about bookings. The play will run from 6 to 22 May and will be directed by Alan Ayckbourn. Initial details can be found at www.oldlaundrytheatre.co.uk as well as in the All Lies section of Alan Ayckbourn’s Official Website.
