Alan Ayckbourn’s seminal play, Absurd Person Singular, celebrates its 50th anniversary this June and the Ayckbourn YouTube Channel will be celebrating it.
Over the course of the year, a number of videos will look at various aspects of the play including the creation of it as well as its subsequent productions and legacy.
The first Absurd Person Singular at 50 video though goes back to 26 June 1972 and introduces the play through a pictorial guide to its world premiere production at the Library Theatre, Scarborough.
Alan Ayckbourn’s Archivist, Simon Murgatroyd, narrates this insight into the first production with material and photographs drawn from the Ayckbourn Archive in the Borthwick Institute for Archives at the University of York. Many of the images have not been seen in public since 1972.
It also includes a host of publicity images drawn from all three acts of there world premiere production.
