Forty years ago in 1983, the calendar Ayckbourn’s Scarborough was published with Alan Ayckbourn’s captions accompanying photos by Michael Stead. To celebrate its discovery in the Ayckbourn Archive and 40th anniversary, the photographs and captions are being reproduced each month on this blog.
Scalby Village is the sort of Beverley Hills of Scarborough, where all sorts of exotic people with open-neck shirts live. Life there is carefree and easy-going, with only the occasional danger of being run down by a newly registered Porsche tractor. The three riders seen here have just been celebrating matins at Scalby’s go-ahead ride-in church.
