◦ The Old Vic to Revive How The Other Half Loves The Summer (updated 23/06/26)
The classic Ayckbourn play How The Other Half Loves is being revived in-the-round at The Old Vic from 29 July – 19 September 2026. It will be directed by Phillip Breen and star Roger Allam, Dorothy Atkinson, Ayesha Antoine, Laura Elsworthy, Adam Gillen and Rowan Polonski. More details here.

◦ A Theatrical Revolution now available via the website bookstore (23/06/26)
Alan Ayckbourn’s archivist Simon Murgatroyd’s latest book A Theatrical Revolution is now available to order direct from Alan Ayckbourn’s Official Website via the new book store. The book – republished after a sell-out run in 2025 chronicles the inaugural year of the UK’s first theatre in the round in Scarborough and features an exclusive interview with Sir Alan Ayckbourn. ◦ Celebrating Theatre in the Round at the Library Theatre Talks (08/07/26)
Alan Ayckbourn’s archivist Simon Murgatroyd will be marking the 50th anniversary of the closure of Theatre in the Round at the Library Theatre as part of Heritage Open Days. He will be giving a free talk, The Final Night of The Library Theatre – Fifty Years On, on 11 September at 1.30pm – the actual anniversary. He will also be giving talk / tours going behind the scenes of the space where Alan Ayckbourn made his professional playwright and directing debuts on Thursday 17 September at 6pm and Saturday 19 September at 10.30am. All events will take place at Scarborough Library.

◦ The Trial of Romeo Oscar: Alan Ayckbourn’s New Play (updated 08/07/26)
Alan Ayckbourn’s 92nd play, The Trial of Romeo Oscar, will run at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, from 4 September to 3 October 2026. It will be directed by Alan Ayckbourn and stars Elizabeth Boag, Frances Marshall, Russell Richardson, Richard Stacey, Leigh Symonds, Hayden Wood and Olivia Woolhouse. ◦ Alan Ayckbourn Announced as Honorary Patron of Whitby Lit Fest (31/03/26)
Whitby Lit Fest has announced that Sir Alan Ayckbourn CBE will be its Honorary Patron following its successful launch in 2025 which included a hugely successful evening with Sir Alan hosted by the festival’s patron, Kate Fenton. The news came with the launch of the 2026 programme for the festival which is running from 19 – 22 November 2026. More details here.

Woman in Mind new edition (13/01/26)
Alan Ayckbourn’s classic 1985 play Woman in Mind has been published in a new edition to tie in with the 40th anniversary West End revival of the play. Faber has published the edition. as part of its new range of singificant play texts with a new typographic cover design. Further details can be found on the Faber website here.

◦ Sir Alan Receives the ABTT Stephen Joseph Lifetime Achievement Award (02/10/25)
Sir Alan Ayckbourn was presented with the ABTT Stephen Joseph Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to theatre-in-the-round and British theatre on 29 September 2025 at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough. The award was presented by the CEO of the Association of British Theatre Technicians, Liz Sillett, and chair of the Stephen Joseph Committee, Bob Millington. More details on the Ayckbourn Blog.

◦ Facebook (Farcebook) Update (18/08/25)
Facebook – for unexplained reasons – deleted the Alan Ayckbourn page. As a result, there is no official Ayckbourn page on Facebook nor will there be in the future. Any page pertaining to be by or related to Alan Ayckbourn is the usual Facebook garbage page. Please ignore them and also anything on X / Twitter. There is no official Ayckbourn presence on this discredited platform either.

◦ Ayckbourn talks now streaming (2024)
Several talks by Alan Ayckbourn’s archivist, Simon Murgatroyd, are currently streaming for free. Alan Ayckbourn: From Actor to Artistic Director, is available to stream here, Ayckbourn & The Library Theatre is streaming here, whilst Ayckbourn’s Gardens can be streamed here. ◦ The Ayckbourn Collection donated to Scarborough Museums and Galleries (2023)
A small curated collection of significant archival items relating to Alan Ayckbourn, Stephen Joseph and theatre in the round in Scarborough has been donated permanently to Scarborough Art Gallery by Sir Alan and his archivist, Simon Murgatroyd. Click here.
