Alan Ayckbourn’s home theatre has announced the world premiere of his 87th play in Scarborough this summer.
Family Album will premiere at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in the North Yorkshire coastal resort in September and mark the 82nd of his plays to premiere in his adopted home town.
Family Album will run from 2 September to 1 October 2022 and is a play about three generations of the same family.
Now we’re leaving… all the skeletons are suddenly jumping out of their cupboards.
A moving-in day, 1952. A birthday party, 1992. A moving-out day, 2022.
Join RAF veteran John and housewife Peggy as they proudly move into the first home they can really call their own; daughter Sandra, frantically negotiating the challenges of a 10-year-old’s birthday party without her AWOL husband; and grandaughter Alison, finally escaping the house she has somewhat unwillingly inherited.
Alan Ayckbourn’s 87th new play tenderly chronicles the trials, tribulations and temptations of three generations of one family across 70 years in the same home.
The production was announced by the Stephen Joseph Theatre today (4 February) in a launch event with Sir Alan, which included details of the entire summer season at the venue. Further information can be found at www.sjt.uk.com.
This will be the second Ayckbourn world premiere of 2022 following the announcement that The Old Laundry Theatre, Bowness-on-Windermere, will premiere his 86th play – All Lies – during May 2022.
Tickets for Family Album will be on sale to the public from 9 February and are priced from £10 with further details and bookings at the SJT website at www.sjt.uk.com. Watch this page for more details and updates in the coming days soon.
